I have watched Leave the world behind last night with my wife. We were looking for something easy to consume. For some reason, we thought a thriller would do. Leave the world behind is definitely a thriller, and everything, but not easy to consume.
I loved this film. I think, one of the best movies, I have seen in the last years. You can read the plot somewhere else if you are interested, but probably it's even better watching it without having too much information about it.
I can compare this film to some kind of modern art, where everything is up for interpretation. There are so many unanswered questions that are left behind by the director, Sam Esmail in the film. There are literally no thread closed and all of them are waiting for you to find explanations. Even when a thread is closed in the final scene, it's inviting for discussion about the intention of the artist. I had the feeling that every frame in the film is carefully crafted with great detail.
The cast, Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali, Ethan Hawke, Charlie Evans,Farrah Mackenzie and Myha’la Herrold, is second to none. I don't have much to say about the actors. They really live in their character. I never felt that they are doing something out of character.
The whole film is very tense. The music is very mysterious - and as with everything else in the film invites you to discussion.
The actors, the screenplay, the music, so in general the film never let me Leave the World of the film Behind. It didn't let me sink into the sofa and just be. It completely absorbed me, just to Leave me Behind at the end.
